How to use Rub-On Transfer Paper

Ā

Ā

Rub-On Transfer Paper is one of our most popular products. It's a fun and versatile method to transfer various images, text or designs from your printer to various surfaces and are cross-compatible. Whether you're a fan of inkjet precision or laser vibrancy, one pack of Rub-On is universally compatible with both.

These allow you to effortlessly create ultra-thin strong adhesive stickers. Essentially a printable sticker paper. The paper-like finishĀ lets you experience richer and more vivid colorsĀ allowing designs to truly stand out with a seamless edge that is practically invisible on paper and light surfaces. Great for scrapbooking, card and book covers. Even adheres well to surfaces such as plastic, wood, leather, steel. It's designed to take your artistic endeavors to new heights.Ā

Although this is one of the best adhesives on the market and can be purchased separately, it is worth noting that Rub-On is not dishwasher-safe or as durable as our Film-Free Decal Paper. However, it is significantly easier for the end consumer to apply as a sticker. It is a dry application transfer, there is no water or additional glue required.

Ā

Instructions:

Ā

The Rub-On Transfer package consists of two types of paper.Ā The semi-clear sheetsĀ areĀ the printing papers, and the thicker white papersĀ areĀ the adhesive sheets.

Ā

Materials Needed:

  • Laser or Inkjet Printer
  • Scissors, Craft Knife or Cutting Machine.
  • Squeegee Rubber or Popsicle (for rubbing).
  • Smooth hard tabletop to work on.
  • A ruler is recommended for even application of adhesive.

Ā

Step 1: Mirror Your Image

Ā

Rub-On Transfers are applied face down, so youĀ may want to mirror your images before printing, especially if your images contain text.

Ā
Photoshop:Ā  Ā  Image > Image Rotation > Flip Canvas
Illustrator:Ā  Ā  Object > Transform > Reflect
GIMP:Ā  Ā  Image > Transform > Flip Horitzontally
Krita:Ā  Ā  Image > Mirror Image Horizontally

    Ā

Alternatively, you can mirror the file in your printer settings.

    Ā

    Step 2: Print

    Ā

Make sure your Printer Settings have been setĀ accordingly:

    Ā

PAPER TYPE: Premium Glossy Paper, Opp Film, Label Paper or Transparent Film.

    Ā

We advise you to use the manual feed in your printer (not the paper tray).

When ready, print on the matte side of the printing sheet.

    Ā

    Step 3: Drying (Inkjet Only)

    Ā

Wait until the ink is fully dry. You can use a blow dryer to speed this up.

If you're using a laser printer then image willĀ already be dry.

    Ā

    Step 4: Adhesive

    Ā

Peel back a small a corner of the adhesive sheet and fold it.

    Ā

Lay it face down on the printed image. You can align the sheets before pressing down the exposed corner.

    Ā

    Ā

It's very easy to align perfectly each time by doing the following:

    • Align the bottom corners by pressing the sheets from the sides.
    • Hold down the aligned sheets with one hand as you make your way up to the exposed corner.
    • Press down the exposed adhesive exactly where the fold is before pressing down the rest of the corner.

    Ā

    Step 5: Attach

    Ā

We recommend using a ruler and flat tabletop to avoid air bubbles. Slowly peel away the white backing from the adhesive with one hand, while pressing the layers together with the ruler.
    Ā
Next you need to press the image and adhesive together.

    Ā

    Ā

You can rub it with a knuckle but we recommendĀ using the hard edge off a squeegee, using a popsicle or a laminator with the heat setting turned off. The image will get clearer as you rub.

    Ā

Step 6: Cut out your stickers

    Ā

You can cut these out using a cutting machine, craft knife, or scissors.

    Ā

    Ā

If you are using the white adhesive, then any edges left around the image will leave a white outline, so you may want to cut closer depending on your desired result.

    Ā

    Ready:

    Ā

At this point your stickers are ready and can be stored away in an airtight bag or used right away.

    Ā

    Step 7: Peel

    Ā

To start transferring your Rub-On sticker, peel away the clear protective layer.
These transfers are very thin so avoid touching the sticky side.

    Ā

    Ā

If you're applying a large transfer, you can follow the same process as before, starting with only a corner to align the image before doing a full transfer.

    Ā

    Ā

    Step 8: Rub-On

    Ā

Attach your sticker to the surface and rub the backing to transfer the image.

    Ā

    Ā
Uneven Surfaces: If applying onto uneven surfaces such as coarse leather, you may want to consider scratchingĀ the backing to fully release the image.Ā The backingĀ turns white when fully released. Affter releasing the backing, you canĀ press and massage any loose transfer into the contours.

    Ā

    Step 9: Reveal

    Ā

Carefully lift a corner, and peel away the backing. Revealing your perfect Rub-On Transfer.

    Ā

Tip: If you have trouble lifting a corner of the backing, you may want to scratch one of the corners. Scratching the backing should turn white, meaning it has loosened and you can peel from there.

    Ā

For uneven surfaces, you can press down the image so that it adheres to every contour.
